Growing older sometimes brings health problems and diminished independence to a parent or spouse, and increased concerns and responsibilities to that person's caregiver. Midwestern Adult Day Services exists to help.
In 1977, a concerned group of citizens saw the need for more services for the frail elderly to support them living at home within their own community. They created a not for profit charitable organization and began an adult day centre offering therapeutic activities. From the initial program in Clinton, the agency expanded to include four more locations throughout Huron County - Exeter, Grand Bend, Wingham and Goderich
Clients are picked up at their door by either a friendly volunteer driver or a wheelchair accessible vehicle. They arrive at the Day Centre and are welcomed by a dedicated, caring team of staff and program volunteers. Activities designed to keep participants energized in both mind and body fill the day. This includes games, exercises, memory stimulators, guest speakers, sing-alongs and crafts. A hot meal at lunch time encourages conversation and brings back memories of big family dinners at home. Whirlpool baths, foot care and a session with the hairdresser can also be made available to clients for a nominal fee.
The Day Centre gives clients' caregivers a much appreciated and worry-free respite - a chance to run errands, have lunch with a friend or just sit down and relax.
